Ron Hextall: The Man, The Myth, The Angriest Son of a Bitch in Hockey

Ok, last post of the night (probably).

I was talking to my hot-as-balls boyfriend earlier today and told him that if I, myself, was a boy and played hockey... I'd probably be your Avery/Godard/Goon type of player that just went out to hit people and make them angry.

These videos are a homage to former Flyers Goalie Ron Hextall, the most angry, aggressive and angsty son of a bitch to ever play the position (and arguably the game).

We begin with Game 5 from the 1989 Playoffs between The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ronnie was not having a great game that night. He and his backup Ken Wregget gave up a combined total of 10 goals and gave Mario Lemieux a natural hat trick for the first 3 of them. Ron was always known to be a little on the assholey side but after giving up those 3 to Lemieux, he was really pissed. He got 5 for fighting later in the game and then after this little gem got 10 for misconduct and then thrown out all together.

It all started with Brown's goal, the 8th or 9th of the night for the Pittsburgh Penguins...

Your commentators there were Mike Lange and Paul Steigerwald btw. Oh look out, Loretta! I also like the part where the crowd starts chanting, "We want Hextall. We want Hextall." Yeah! Don't we all! ;)

Moving right along, here's Hextall sprinting out of his crease to go after Felix Potvin in an ultimate goalie-net match after Potvin slashed Daniel LaCroix (tip Hextall was the guy getting his ass kicked there):

It was explained to me that the reason Hextall sprinted across the ice to go after Potvin is because of a sort of unwritten rule that dictates the only person that can go after a goalie... is another goalie. So hat's off to you, Ron Hextall, for having your teammate's back on that one from all the way on the other side of the rink!

This one speaks for itself: Hextall vs Chelios. So good!

Ron Hextall is my hero! Its kind of a shame that you don't see players like this anymore. :)

  1. Chris Chelios was a punk. He was constantly cheap shotting players who didn't know he was on his way to cheap shot them
